Jordan and Steve marry in style.
Jordan and Stephen were looking for a photographer whose approach was laid back and would take lots of candid shots of their St Elizabeth House wedding. I couldn’t wait for their wedding day!
Luxury Devon wedding venue
The venue they chose was St Elizabeth’s House is located in the stannary town of Plympton St Maurice, near Plymouth in Devon. It’s a fantastic place for a wedding with lots of high end style and character.
Historic and stylish wedding venue
St Elizabeth House was built in the 17th century in a Georgian style and features oodles of contemporary, boutique styling done not at the detriment of the period features. When I arrived I was particularly struck by the secluded tree-lined drive to the hotel’s main entrance.
The outside space is beautiful too, with large sweeping grounds featuring a small lake and ceremony pagoda. There’s also a landscaped lawn adjacent to the dining room and a secluded rockery which is great for couple wedding portraits.
The couple’s wedding got off to a great start with warm May sunshine that pretty much stayed with them the whole day. As the wedding guests arrived I took candid shots including a quick group portrait which I’m always happy to do if requested.
One side of the family arrived in style in a limousine Hummer – it took the driver a few goes, but he eventually manoeuvred himself up St Elizabeth House’s drive. 🙂
Wedding photography options
With guests chatting and drinking throughout the hotel including the lawn, bar and conservatory there was plenty for me to photograph and lots of visual variety and different light to play with too. This is well worth considering when you are looking at wedding venues and the potential for great wedding photos!
With the ceremony approaching, off I went to find the bridal party to photograph some of the bridal preparation. As I arrived there was a minor calamity going on with a ripped bridesmaid’s dress but this was being expertly dealt with by the bride’s support crew. Even with this going on, I was able to capture some heartfelt and atmospheric black and white bridal preparation pictures that I think really help to tell the story in simple and emotional terms.
Wedding breakfast photography
The ceremony came thick and fast with big smiles, hugs and tears. Cocktail ‘hour’ commenced and again I was kept busy with creative, candid wedding photography. During the meal I made a point of photographing some of the dinner service – staff work so hard at these times that I think they’re worth photographing as a way of telling the story.
Dancefloor wedding photos
As the May sun lowered in the sky it wasn’t long before the dancing started. I love this bit of the wedding! It’s great to get in close and use flash to really capture the fun and immediacy of the day.
I went home thoroughly exhausted but with memory cards full of a brilliant and fun day – and that’s what it’s all about! Hit me up if you’d like to chat about my St Elizabeth House wedding photography! R.
